– Our Work –
Community Development
Community development is central to Morning Star’s impact in Afghanistan. Our programs provide Afghans the opportunity to live in dignity and freedom by addressing the oppressive chains of abject poverty, war, lack of education, and substance abuse.

Relief Efforts
Although Morning Star is not primarily a relief organization, most Afghans are not getting enough to eat, with millions experiencing acute hunger. Starving people should not be ignored. In response to this crisis, we incorporate relief in every province where we work.
Business Development
One avenue for economic impact is training individuals to start their own small local businesses. This enables undereducated people to generate income through micro enterprise and gain dignity and self-confidence as valued members of their communities.

New Life Addiction Recovery
Afghanistan has historically been the largest producer of opium in the world. Today, there are millions of addicts across the country struggling for survival. The New Life Drug Addiction Recovery Program, with locations in Kabul and Bamyan, addresses a vital need to help men who have lost hope. New Life runs a contextualized drug treatment and rehabilitation program to reunite men with their families and restore their dignity and self-worth. Men are taught how to be set free from addiction through self-discipline and responsibility via exercise, counseling sessions, and vocational skills. An example of a business developed by this program is Baba Mountain Knives.

“I’m Abdul and I was addicted. I was on drugs for 14 years. Whatever I tried, camps that I went to, never worked. I couldn’t succeed and had a lot of failures. I couldn’t quit until I came to New Life. New Life gave me hope, and gave me back a personality I thought I had lost.”
