Winter in the high mountain villages of Afghanistan can be very tough. Forced from their homes by deep snows and cold temperatures, many families have no option but to come to the refugee camps in Kabul. The government provides few services to these camps, and the people suffer greatly from malnutrition and hypothermia. Survival in these camps is tough, especially for the very young and the very old. During the 2010/2011 winter Morning Star received an entire cargo plane load of winter clothes and other items valued at over $3 million for distribution in Afghanistan.
While not a relief agency, each year Morning Star provides logistical support for partner agencies desiring to bring relief services to Afghan families. Through these partnerships a warm quilt and a large bag of food staples is provided to families in desperate need of assistance.
Morning Star has also recently launched a new refugee program. Click here to learn how you can help.
