Be Their Neighbor Receives A Matching Grant

Thank you so much for your continued support of the “Neighbor” program. Your support this past year has literally helped thousands endure the pandemic in the Bamyan region. Some needed food just to survive; others learned basic hygiene practices that kept them from getting sick.

As Morning Star launches into the spring of 2021, we will be expanding to add a Birth Life Savings Skills course in the Bamyan region. This course has had great success over the years in Herat, and it is now time to expand into Bamyan.

Saving Lives – One Mother And One Baby At A Time

Women being trained in Birth Life Saving Skills (BLiSS)

In Herat, Afghanistan, there are 100,000 Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs), who have moved to the camps outside the city from all over the country of Afghanistan. They come here because of the insecurity of their own town or because of the drought in their region. They are refugees within their own country. These families have left everything in the hopes of basic survival. The needs of pregnant women are especially acute in these areas as they hope to not lose yet another baby.

This year, Morning Star has been sending a team of four trainers into these make-shift camps to teach Birth Life Saving Skills (BLiSS) to men and women. Families continue to bear children in these camps and have a less successful birthrate than those who live in the villages.

July 9, 2019 by msdev2019

Photo contrasting addiction to hope of a new life

There is more land cultivated for opium than the coco harvest in Latin America. As a result, 10% of the overall population in Afghanistan has an addiction to illicit drugs. They are cheap and there is not enough government resources to stop this tsunami of drugs.
