In a country torn by decades of war, over one million Afghan women are easing their suffering through the use of opium and heroin. Children will often become addicted to these harmful drugs through their parents. New Life Women’s Center is a one-year drug rehabilitation program that seeks to redeem women from their destructive lifestyles and empower them by teaching skills and knowledge so they can be restored to their families and society.

Afghanistan has a high percentage of drug addiction. Many start taking drugs due to lack of medical care. Many women become addicted because their husbands are addicts. Due to the Afghan culture being a shame and honor culture, drug addiction comes with deep shame. As a woman, you become an outcast, losing the respect of even your children. There is no long-term help available for these women, which is why Morning Star started New Life Women’s Center.
Along with freedom from addiction, the center aims to: 1) provide a literacy program, as 60% of Afghan women are illiterate; and 2) give these women employability skills. New Life Women’s Center will start with a 100% natural soap making business.

New Life Women’s Center desires to empower women to have a positive impact in their family and society and we believe this is an important part of restoration.
