In the spring of 2020, the world was sent into a panic, and we at Morning Star have been juggling other instability, as well, within Afghanistan.
- The coronavirus has sent the world into a panic. Government, education and most formal groups have temporarily been shut down in Afghanistan.
- Two simultaneous Presidential inaugural addresses (yes, TWO). In Afghanistan, both presidential candidates have declared victory and gave inaugural addresses at the same time in different locations.
- The U.S. – Taliban Peace agreement.
As we see the instability, we see now more than ever that strong quality leadership is needed. This is why Morning Star is invested in development much more than just relief. Development moves people to be self-sufficient which will transform themselves and their communities. A good majority of Morning Star’s programs focus on developing and equipping the Afghan people to become better leaders of their families, communities, and country. In the midst of the instability, we see new opportunities to continue to pour into the lives of the Afghan people. Morning Star’s ultimate goal is to work ourselves out of our jobs as we see Afghans transformed and leading their nation. We still have a ways to go as we continue to open new doors and opportunities.
The recent coronavirus outbreak has required us to repurpose some of our programs temporarily. In cooperation with the Afghan government, much of our local staff have been asked to train and equip Afghan communities to prevent and prepare for increased coronavirus outbreaks. Since much of our training deals with hygiene, it is easy for our teams to adapt and serve the Afghan people. This also gives us increased favor with the Afghan government. It is a long process and we are grateful for your partnership along the way. Please continue to think of us as we travel in these uncharted waters.
